A great roll-up of 32 members attended the Narrabri Garden Club’s July meeting which was held at the Narrabri Golf Club.

President Wendy McNair welcomed all to the meeting and thanked Jenni Hayne for organising the venue, expressing pleasure at the numbers present.

She reminded members that fees of $15 were due and also said she had rescued many succulents and geraniums following the show if anyone wanted to take some.

Morning tea was provided by the golf club – thanks go to the staff.

Business discussed included the national convention to be held this year in Townsville depending on the COVID-19 situation currently affecting the country.

Two delegates, Sue and Jenni will be attending, all going well.

Activities for 2021-22 include the zone picnic day to be held in Narrabri and centenary celebrations, dates to be confirmed at a later date.

Narrabri Garden Club will also be celebrating its 50th anniversary, the date has yet to be decided.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of the memorial seat donated to the town by the relatives of the late Wilga McCumstie?

Her daughter was recently visiting and wondered where it was situated.

It appears to have been removed from wherever it had been placed and our club will conduct a search in the hope of locating it.

The schedule for the floral art event to be held in October was discussed.

The theme is ‘nature’s harvest’.

Entries for this event close on October 1 and none will be accepted without a ticket.

Cut flowers are needed for the exhibits on Friday, October 1.

Some of the various sections include ‘solitary splendour’, gold, silver, bronze, ‘love is in the air’ featuring roses and foliage, circles with textures, and cardboard capers.

Wendy McNair and Lyn Vaughan then presented ideas for the examples of the various sections.

Ideas for future meetings were discussed but no firm decision reached.

Please check our current advertisement where details of the August meeting are stated.

The bloom competition was won by Jenni Hayne’s rose and Lyn Vaughan’s grevillea came second with Elizabeth Spicer’s orange rose, third.

We hope to see you all at the meeting to enjoy friendship through gardening. Keep safe and well.
